Growl + Sing

This notation indicates singing through the instrument or away from it. Growl, meanwhile, is a vocal technique that produces a guttural, raspy sound.
When this notation appears together with ordinary notation, it refers to growl, produced by vibrating the vocal cords (singing) while playing the note. This changes the timbre and must be done through the instrument's embouchure. When there is no ordinary notation at the same time, it simply indicates singing. In both cases, the note indicates the pitch to be sung, taking the instrument's transposition into account.
