The mezzo dynamic is represented with an "m" in the score. It is an invented dynamic sitting between mezzo-forte and mezzo-piano.

While its neighboring dynamics imply direction and intent, mezzo is meant to be a neutral dynamic, not pointing toward any particular direction — ideal for minimalist and/or static music.
