Albert Sanz (1978)
Albert Sanz, a pianist, composer and arranger from Valencia, grew up in a family of musicians and discovered jazz as a teenager after a Tete Montoliu concert. Initially trained at the Valencia conservatory and at the Taller de Músics, he soon began playing jam sessions and touring Europe as a member of the European Jazz Youth Orchestra. His first album was named Best Spanish Jazz Album of the Year by specialist critics.
On a full scholarship, he studied at Berklee College of Music and later moved to New York, where he collaborated with musicians from the international scene and released several albums for Fresh Sound Records. Back in Spain, he combined teaching at Musikene and at the Conservatorio Superior de Valencia with recordings and tours alongside leading figures in jazz and flamenco, while also producing family projects and composing music for theatre.
Since 2015 he has taught at Berklee Valencia, a period in which he has delved deeper into his Mediterranean and Brazilian roots, releasing albums featuring collaborations with artists such as Silvia Pérez Cruz and Jorge Drexler, as well as big-band projects. In recent years he has expanded his work as a vocalist and orchestral soloist, and continues creating new music while taking part in artistic and educational projects such as ESMAR.
