Ce qualcuno(2023)
Albert Sanz(1978)
Groove-Orchestra

The piece grows out of a piano improvisation: a hand position produces a simple chord that, in turn, sets off a sixteenth-note motif that becomes the piece's musical engine. That very pianistic accompaniment supports a melody that is initially wordless, with echoes of Gregorian chant.
Virginia Iranzo later contributed Italian lyrics expressing a search for meaning in life and the longing to find someone — perhaps a spiritual presence — who looks on without judgment and grants peace. Although it's a very fast song, its harmony moves slowly, which makes it easy to adapt for orchestra in large blocks of sound, with the strings shining in divisi and leaving room for possible improvisation.
"Ce qualcuno", written and arranged by Albert Sanz, was performed by the Orquesta de València under the direction of Daniel Abad Casanova at the Teatre Principal de València in July 2023. On stage were Albert Sanz (piano, voice and music), Javier Colina (double bass), Jorge Rossy (vibraphone) and Borja Barrueta (drums). The sound was recorded and mixed by Vicente Sabater, and the video was produced by Andrea Goytre, Live Music Valencia and El Sistema del Solar, edited by Andrea Goytre and Albert Sanz himself.
