Víctor Trescolí Sanz

Víctor Trescolí Sanz (1982)

Toy piano

WEBSOCIAL

Víctor Trescolí Sanz is a pianist with a particular interest in presenting both the traditional and the most contemporary repertoire for the instrument. He holds a Master's in Performance from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (CVA) and a Master's from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). His teachers include Brenno Ambrosini, David Kuyken, Håkon Austbø and Ralph van Raat. He has been awarded by the Jacques Vonk Foundation (Netherlands) and received grants from the IVM (Instituto Valenciano de la Música) and the Ministerio de Cultura, as well as first prize at the Chamber Music Competition of the Academia Valenciana de la Música. Víctor is the pianist and artistic director of Grup Mixtour. Besides solo recitals, Víctor has collaborated with ensembles such as Avlitria Ensemble, CVA-New Muziek Ensemble (Harry Sparnaay), Espai Sonor, Alart Quartet and Sorolla Ensemble; he forms a duo with pianist Xavier Torres, as well as with cellist Josep Trescolí and percussionist Sisco Aparici (Synergein Project); he has worked with Imaginari Ensemble and Amores Grup de Percussió, and has taken part in festivals such as Festival Punto de Encuentro, Nits d'Aielo i Art, Ensems, Off_Herzios, Pin Pan Pun, Mostra Sonora de Sueca, SoXXI, the Córdoba Contemporary Music Festival, Festival Bergerault and Academia Synergein, among others.

In his research work, Víctor has presented several studies, most notably "Dies Irae en Rachmaninov" and a study on the performance of Mompou's Música Callada ("SILENT MUSIC: Federico Mompou's Música Callada", CVA Research Symposium 2010, The Netherlands), as well as "Toy piano, juguete e instrumento" (a study on the history, performance practice and repertoire of the toy piano). Víctor's interest in the toy piano has taken him into an unknown and surprising world. His first task was to search for and collect original pieces written for the instrument, eventually gathering a large number of works by different composers, starting with the very first piece written for it, John Cage's well-known Suite for Toy Piano.

Among all the projects carried out with the toy piano — his own premieres and numerous collaborations with sound artists and composers — one that stands out is the monographic project on Austrian composer Karlheinz Essl, carried out in 2012 under the auspices of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) together with the composer himself, featuring works for piano, toy piano and live electronics, a project that culminated in "Not a Toy" (keyboard music by Karlheinz Essl), a CD released on the Audiotalaia label. In 2013 he released an eclectic album of his own music for toy pianos on the Gadgad Music label, titled Toy Piano Project: Sons Petits. In 2018 he released another work on Audiotalaia titled States, featuring his own pieces for toy piano and live electronics; in 2019 he released the cassette No Keys Electronics on the Crystal Mine label; in 2020 he released Limbo, exploring music production, and A: Toy, a work dedicated to the toy piano. In 2021 he released Drops, an intimate, minimalist album for solo piano, and in 2022 he returned to the toy piano with Spring Knots, followed by Light and Mechanics for solo piano in 2023 and No Keys Electronics with Machines for toy piano and electronics, also in 2023. Víctor has premiered works by Alberto Bernal, Adrián Borredà, Carlos D. Perales, Karlheinz Essl and Bernat Cucarella, and has worked with composers of the stature of Karlheinz Essl, Vinko Globokar, Pierre Jodlowski and Thomas Meadowcroft. He has taught at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Castilla-La Mancha and the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Castellón de la Plana, and currently holds a professorship in piano repertoire for instrumentalists at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Valencia.
