Tranvía-28(2024)
Alejandro Solano(1995)
Groove-Marimba solo

Tranvía-28 is a piece for solo marimba composed by Alejandro Solano, inspired by the expressive world of flamenco and, in particular, by the free style of the taranta. The piece explores the marimba's timbral and harmonic possibilities to recreate the sound and improvisatory character of flamenco playing, carrying over to the instrument the lyricism, depth and rhythmic freedom proper to this palo. Composed as part of Alejandro Solano's first album, Tranvía-28 proposes a dialogue between tradition and contemporaneity, between the flamenco gesture and the marimba's modern contribution. The result is a singular, deeply expressive piece that expands the instrument's solo repertoire and offers the listener a sonic journey through the atmospheres and landscapes of flamenco.
Tranvía-28 was composed after winning the Premio Filón at the Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas for Best Flamenco Instrumentalist, an award that inspired the creation of this piece as a meeting point between the marimba and flamenco. It premiered during the presentation of the album Flamencusión at the Cartagena Jazz Festival, marking its first public performance.
