Sul ponticello

This technique involves drawing the bow very close to the bridge, so the hair contacts the string in an area near it. This position produces a brighter, more metallic sound, rich in high harmonics.
The effect can be intensified by moving the bow even closer to the bridge. When m.s.p. (molto sul ponticello) is indicated, the bow should be placed very close to the bridge, emphasizing the timbral characteristics of this technique. There can also be an intermediate point between this technique and ord.: p.s.p., poco sul ponticello.
